Nebraska's NASA Space Grant gifted my class with six Lego Robots, and over the conference break, I took them home thinking I'd get them put together. Yeah right. It took me a collective nine hours to put ONE together, and I decided then and there that my kids would need to help out with that! However, I'd avoided that because I felt like thousands of Lego pieces and 23 excited kids was a bad combination. Instead, the "robot party" became the incentive for passing a level of an optional enrichment opportunity in science, the science wizard challenge.
With helpful parent hands and a few after-school treats, these 15 kids had the remaining five robots assembled in an hour-and-a-half. I was so thankful, and they had such fun celebrating their accomplishments as well as putting together the robots for our Space and Technology unit this spring.
