Last fall, my dad turned 60, and all along we planned to celebrate his milestone. However, my parents were starting to put in their pool, and Dad was headed to the field for harvest, so we decided we'd really catch him off guard and surprise him this summer at the pool. All along he knew we were having a "pool opening party," and ironically he helped us plan almost every piece of the party. He did get a different invitation than everyone else, though, and we got him out of the house last-minute to get ice...after all, we had no way to keep that much ice cold on such a hot day! :) As he walked into the party, a birthday banner and the beer-themed-party had taken place in the half-hour he was gone.
In lieu of gifts, we had our guests bring their favorite six-pack to share, and as they arrived, we had them put them into galvanized tubs with the appropriate label. We had smaller buckets of bar snacks, and koozies to send home with everyone. It was such a fun way to bring in something my dad loves to do - beer tasting. It was also perfect for a hot summer day. We had so much fun celebrating, and it was a great weekend spent with family and close friends. Happy [late] 60th, Dad!
It was such a fun 4th of July weekend, and I got to see all my favorite people! After a week of prepping all my favorite festive foods, I packed up several (too many?) bags and headed out for a long weekend.
Thursday and Friday, I went camping with my good friend and his family at a fun Iowa lake; any time spent floating in the sun is a-okay with me! From there, I went to my parents' house for a weekend-long pool party, but not before taking in a small-town parade the morning of the 4th. It was so fun to watch Little Miss hesitantly run after candy, wave at tractors, and wave her little flags :) After a park-side picnic with my grandparents, we headed home to soak up some rays, and we were even lucky enough to see the neighbor's fireworks from the pool.
We capped off the weekend by celebrating my little sister's birthday. I'm en route to NASA to train with my educator group again this week, so keep up with Teacher Talk for all our adventures this week! ...and be patient with my sporadic posts! :)
Welcome! I'm a twenty-something teacher taking on newly-wedded bliss in Small town, USA. I love cooking, spoiling those I love, and writing all about it. I'm glad you're here!
